Starting with AdminStudio 8.0, Macrovision has droped Access Database support for creating application catalog. The default application catalog in AdminStudio 8.0 is SQL Server. If you don’t have access to SQL Server, AdminStudio allows you to install SQL Server 2005 Express edition & creates the Application Catalog for you.

When you launch AdminStudio 8.0 for the first time, the following options are available:

  • QuickStart: If you do not have access to a SQL Server Database, choose QuickStart to install SQL Server 2005 Express Edition. At the end of the installation, it will launch the Application Catalog Wizard.
  • Create a new Application Catalog: If you already have a SQL Server or Oracle Database available in your organization, you can choose this option to allow the Application Catalog Wizard to create a new Catalog for you.
  • Connect to an existing Application Catalog: If you already have a Catalog (Database) setup in SQL Server or Oracle, you can use this option to directly connect to it.
